The Benefits of Rhodiola

Posted by Brett Riley on

RHODIOLA/Rose Root (Rosea)

Rhodiola is an "adaptogen".
Adaptogens are substances that increase the body's overall resistance and help to normalise bodily functions. As an adaptogen, Rhodiola helps people adapt to manage stress, and give a general boost in positive thinking or well-being and energy.
Rhodiola is thought to enhance immunity, increase the capacity for exercise and enhance memory, Rhodiola is also used as a main herb in breaking the addiction cycle. Reports and study shows that is is helpful for overcoming cannabis addiction.
Rhodiola has a legendary history dating back thousands of years. In 77 A.D., the Greek physician Dioscorides documented the medical applications of the plant, which he then called rodia riza, in his classic medical text De Materia Medica.
The Vikings depended on the herb to enhance their physical strength and endurance, while Chinese emperors sent expeditions to Siberia to bring back "the golden root" for medicinal preparations.
Rhodiola has been shown to shorten recovery time after prolonged workouts, to increase attention span, memory, strength, and for its anti-toxic action.
Studies using proofreading tests have demonstrated that Rhodiola enhances memorisation and concentration ability over prolonged periods. It increases the bio-electrical activity of the brain which improves memory and brain energy.
Rhodiola both stimulates and protects the immune system by reinstating homeostasis (metabolic balance) in the body.
