The Benefits of Peppermint

Posted by Brett Riley on

PEPPERMINT

Peppermint is a popular herb with many uses and therapeutic applications. Its sharp menthol odour, refreshing flavour, and cooling sensation makes this herb a favourite flavouring for herbal tea.

Peppermint tea, brewed from the plant’s leaves, is one of the most widely consumed herbal teas.
Peppermint has traditional folk medicine uses as a pain reliever and research has substantiated the assertion.
Peppermint with its underlying bitterness helps to stimulate the flow of digestive juices. It also assists with wind and has colic calming actions. It can be chewed to relieve toothache, or taken to help anything from nausea and vomiting (including pregnancy sickness) to bowel problems like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Its other main claim to fame is in the treatment of colds, influenza and catarrh.

Today, modern research has continued to prove that peppermint is one of nature’s most valuable herbal remedies.

Botanical Name: Mentha x piperita

Actions: Peppermint reduces muscle spasm and joint inflammation. It is a digestive tonic, and it helps reduce vomiting, flatulence, and gastric discomfort.
