Anti-spasmodic and carminative actions of lemon balm aid with stomach and menstrual cramps, bloating, indigestion, nausea, and acidity. People suffering from gastric ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome may also benefit.
Antiviral actions render it a valuable herb for infections. In particular it is said to assist the healing of cold sores and reduce outbreaks. It can also be applied externally on stings and cuts to aid healing.
Additionally, it has been observed to reduce thyroid activity.
