Native to: Southern India and Sri Lanka
Actions: Anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which may reduce catarrh and fever. Sedative which soothes the digestive tract to relieve abdominal cramps, gas and other ailments, including arthritis.
Description: Lemongrass is renowned for its sweet citrus fragrance and widely used in
cooking or to add scent to soaps and detergents. Medicinally, its sedative properties may aid digestive problems, especially to reduce cramping, gas and ease pain. It can assist the healing of ligaments, tendons and cartilage and may help with injuries affecting these areas, including arthritic pain.
Anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties can assist to reduce fever and catarrh. Lemongrass also inhibits germ growth, and hence can be applied externally. In India, its leaves have been rubbed onto ringworm as anti-fungal.
