Motherwort has a long history of use for heart complaints, for both physical and emotional.
Nowadays it is mostly used where anxiety leads to heart symptoms such as palpitations and missed beats.
On the emotional level, the old writers say that it strengthens and gladdens the heart and drives out melancholy, a useful trait in many herbal tonics. Motherwort helps to relax the central nervous system. It works well with Valeriana (valerian root) & Passfloria (passionflower).
The name Motherwort comes from its main use to help with women's issues such as to normalise menstrual cycles especially where anxiety exists, to ease tension of labour pains, ease symptoms of menopause, hot flushes and mood swings. Try it with Calendula, Saliva, and Achillea for these issues.
