What is The Herb Shed?
We're not just a herb shop - we're a flavour pantry built to seduce people back into cooking - 1 blend at a time.

Where is The Herb Shed based?
We're a proud Wollongong local, packing every order from right here in the Illawarra on the NSW South Coast.

Is The Herb Shed Australian owned?
Yes — we're a small, local, Australian-owned business, not a big-box import operation.

Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes — we ship to every corner of the country, so whether you're in Sydney or somewhere far more remote, temptation is never far away.

Is everything packed fresh or made to order?
Every order is packed to order, right after you hit purchase — so what lands in your hands is freshly prepared, not sitting around waiting.

What makes The Herb Shed different from a regular spice shop?
Being a local business means we can actually look after your needs, rather than you being just another order lost in some faceless distribution centre. We're not only here for home cooks — we work with chefs, sous chefs, and distilleries too, all backed by the same hands-on, personal service. Our goal is simple: to build a flavour pantry designed to seduce and tempt people back into cooking, one seasoning at a time.

Can I buy in bulk or larger sizes?
Most of our range comes in multiple sizes — from a Pantry Pleasure first-taste amount right up to the Committed, can't-live-without-it size. For anything beyond that, we can special order most products in bulk 5kg quantities — just get in touch and we'll sort it out.

Do you wholesale to restaurants, cafes, or other shops?
Yes, we do. If you're a restaurant, café, or shop interested in stocking The Herb Shed, head to our Become a Stockist page to get the process started.

Do you offer Gift options or Hampers?
We do — keep an eye out for our curated hamper collections, built for people who'd rather gift flavour than another candle.

How do I contact The Herb Shed directly?
Head to our Get in Touch page and send us a message — we read every one, even the flirty ones!

Herbs & Spices

Are your Herbs and Spices packed fresh or made to order?
Every order is packed to order, right after you hit purchase — so what lands in your hands is freshly prepared, not sitting around waiting.

How long do Herbs and Spices last?
Spices don't really have an expiry date — they simply lose flavour and aroma over time. As a rough guide to when they're at their best:

  • Whole spice: up to 2 years
  • Ground spice: up to 1 year
  • Leafy herbs: 1 to 2 years
  • Salts: indefinitely

For best results, store everything in a jar or airtight container once opened — even a well-sealed pouch isn't fully airtight long-term, and ground spices especially will hold their potency better once transferred. Keep strong, aromatic blends (cardamom's a notorious offender) stored separately so they don't taint the flavour of anything nearby.

Why are my Herbs or Spices clumping?
If one of your spices or blends clumps, just break it up with a spoon and use as normal.

We don't add preservatives or anti-caking agents to any of our blends, so naturally, some will tend to clump over time. This usually comes down to the higher moisture content of certain spices — a factor that's completely normal and doesn't affect quality.

To keep this to a minimum, store your herbs and spices out of direct sunlight, away from moisture and condensation, out of the heat, and in an airtight jar or container.

Are your Herbs and Spices Gluten-Free?
None of our herbs, spices, or blends have gluten added during production. That said, our supply chain runs through multiple growers, processors, and packing facilities, so we're not in a position to promise a completely gluten-free environment at every step. For most people with a mild sensitivity, this won't cause any issue. If you're managing coeliac disease or a severe gluten allergy, please treat that as a genuine risk factor and get in touch with us before ordering if you have any doubts.

Can I ship or take Herb Shed products interstate?
For the most part, yes — commercially packaged herbs and spices can travel freely within Australia, whether by post or in your own luggage. Western Australia is the one exception to keep in mind, as they run tighter quarantine rules than other states and restrict certain products, particularly anything containing seeds or specific plant material. If you're ordering to a WA address, it's worth checking with us first to confirm your particular items are cleared to travel — better to ask than have your order held up at the border.
